Del,
Those are Turban shells; Turbo cornutus. I was on the beach at Bates yesterday
and saw them as well. I am assuming the very high surf in the past week is the
cause but not sure.
Regards,
Michael Delaney

Subject: [cinc] Question
We were walking at Bates Rd this morning and there were hundreds of these
shells on the beach. Can anyone tell me what they are and why they’re here all
at once?
Saw a nice pod of coastal bottlenose dolphin as we walked.
REALLY looking forward to getting back on the water!
