Totals: 5 Gray Whales
A very nice day on the water, if not just a bit chilly. Conditions were calm,
with a modest crowd, many of whom had come to sunny So. Cal to escape winter's
grip on their homes and to see the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl Game. The
Georgia "DAWG" fans we happy with the game's exciting outcome.
As for cetacea, it was a somewhat tame day. We saw 2 shy Grays about 2 miles
south of Anacapa, and another 3 whales about a mile off of Scorpion. The
second group was more showy with lots of tail fluke displays.
Captain Lee skippered the Island Explorer along with crew/narrators Jean and
Joe. Anthony Scardino was the other naturalist on board.
