Stan Kamin and I were aboard the Vanguard yesterday for the afternoon WW with
20 passengers on board.
2 gray whales
1,000 common dolphins
We watched a cow/calf pair heading west for about 30 minutes. Got good looks of
the lice and barnacles. They did fluke frequently.
Captain Jason headed to AI Landing cove and around to the south side to look at
hauled out CA sea lions.
On the way back, found about 1,000 common dolphins in a bait ball with Brandt’s
cormorants, Western gulls and brown pelicans diving. Plus we sighted a large
flock of sooty shearwaters about a mile south of AI.
Thanks to Captain Jason and crew Joe and Sam for a great afternoon on the water.
