Please do our trainers a BIG favor and be sure to install the app on your
iphone in advance. It is easily done clicking on the link in Shauna's original
email, forwarded below.
It's a two step process. You'll install the Test Flight app, then you'll
install the Ocean Alert app.
Unfortunately, you will NOT be able to do this on an android device,

As a reminder all CINC members are encouraged to attend one of the sessions
below. If you are a photo-ID volunteer there will be time to review and discuss
those sections of the app as well, so please try to attend. We will not be
printing the attached manual for attendees, it is suggested you print yourself
a copy if you would like to one to refer to at the training. Finally, the
training location can be difficult to locate. The classroom is on the second
floor of the building between Brophy's and West Marine.

Marine mammal sightings collected by members of the Channel islands Naturalist
Corps CINC) provide valuable data for NOAA and our partners to reduce lethal
ship strikes of endangered whales and monitor their long term population and
distribution along our coast. Collection of quality data and community science
on marine mammals is a valuable part of your role as a CINC volunteer. Thank
you in advance for your time and support for this effort which is of global
significance.
The Spotter app has been integrated into a new app called "Ocean Alert",
developed through community science funding from the Bureau of Ocean Energy and
Management (BOEM). The Spotter function only works on Apple devices (however,
Whale Alert and Ocean Alert, which are general public apps work on both Android
and Apple devices).
CINC leads on the app development and photo-ID, Kevin Bailey and Dino Dalbon,
have spent many hours of testing and feedback and will be leading the training
classes. If you would like to load the app on your own iPhone, please open this
link from your device: https://testflight.apple.com/join/4oTa5QOY Login access ;
will be provided at the training. Note that the app is currently operating on
