A sustainable ocean economy in 2030

What will the sustainable ocean economy look like in 2030? What are the
risks and opportunities facing companies and investors? Will the
post-coronavirus recovery help or hinder the ocean’s potential to create
economic growth and jobs?

In a new report, The Economist Group's World Ocean Initiative
<https://marinesanctuary.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d11d944c878c12a595f13d2c7&id=f68778d98a&e=3862183b16>
assesses the challenges facing key sectors in the ocean economy including
seafood, shipping, tourism and renewable energy. The authors look at the
role of banks and investors in financing the transition towards clean,
low-carbon technologies, as well as opportunities in data and analytics.
Solutions to marine plastic pollution from source-to-sea are analysed, as
is the ocean’s potential to remove carbon from the atmosphere and increase
resilience to the impacts of climate change.

Sustainable recreational fishing is rewarding for both anglers and
sanctuaries

Recreational fishing is an integral part of American coastal life and
communities, offering both economic vitality and conservation
benefits. And, about 98 percent of national marine sanctuary waters offer
the opportunity to do so. From salmon to mahi mahi to blue marlin, the
diversity of catch is enticing to any angler.

Offering more than just a fun and relaxing hobby, sustainable recreational
fishing provides significant economic and conservation value
<https://marinesanctuary.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d11d944c878c12a595f13d2c7&id=a225a31fff&e=3862183b16>
to local communities.

As people close to and often near the water, fishermen and women have the
opportunity to support and improve marine conservation efforts by
practicing sustainable fishing techniques; advocating for better fisheries
data and science; improving fish habitat; and engaging in the marine policy
process, especially in national marine sanctuaries.

From the Blog: Summer Reads for Ocean Lovers Whether you're hitting the
beach this summer and needing a page-turner while soaking in the sun, or
staying home and *wishing *you were reading on the beach, summer is the
perfect time to unwind with a good book.
