Collegues,
To find the latest research on Gray Whale tagging studies that include the
less than 150 Western Pacific Grays that have members now migrating across the
North Pacific to our Eastern Pacific recovered stock, and joining them to
mating grounds in Baja , see Prof. James Sumich’s book “E.Robstus : The Biology
and Human History of Gray Whales”: Whale Cove Marine Education, Corvallis,
Oregon . It covers in detail the 20,000 mile migration back to Sakhalin Island
in Siberia by mom’s who brought back their calves from Baja. Looks like
something stronger than a food source was at work here! Cheers, Payl

travels of Flex and Varvara have clearly shown that western gray whales
can and do come over the eastern Pacific. Scientists at Oregon State
University's Marine Mammal Institute at have begun to wonder if the western
Pacific herd is indeed a distinct population after all. They also wonder if
they underestimated the ...
