Hello Collegues who know Dick Bellman.
Dick was a stalwart in the CINC a few years ago, but decided his volunteer
expertise would work out better for him with the Red Cross.
He and his wife need your prayers and support now, as his wife is battling
cancer. But, I am passing on good news we retirees of Rio Mesa HS just got from
Dick about Sharon and her current help she is receiving from the City of Hope!
Please read below:
Greetings Friends,
When Sharon went to City of Hope on Sunday we thought we would be there all
week as the wisdom was that it could take up to 5 days to gather the
appropriate number of stem cells. Lo and behold after one day the staff had
collected “more than enough” stem cells for next week’s transplant. Aside to
that her platelet numbers dropped significantly but that was easily remedied
with a transfusion of platelets. The best news was that she did not have to go
back in on Tuesday so we are now home! 😁. The question arose, how could so
many stem cells be gathered in just one day. I think that answer lies in the
caliber of the person who was injecting her with daily Neupogen, the drug
designed to bring stem cells out of the bone marrow and into the blood stream.
That person gave her exactly the correct amount of Neupogen and injected into
precisely the places which provided the greatest absorption. A true
professional. Oh, by the way, I was the one injecting her with the daily
Neupogen. I guess that theory is just a figment of my imagination. Anyway she
is happy to be home so quickly which gives her extra time to get ready for next
week’s actual transplant.
Much love,
Dick
