Collegues,
Hold off eating them! Read on from David.
My question about licenses required relates to fishing off public piers and
break waters. Where it is legal to fish on those entities without a fishing
license, if they are built to fish from, does that mean oysters and other shell
fish attached to them can be “fished” without a license? Paul
Hi Paul,
I believe there is a bit of a difference of toxin accumulation of a animal like
an abalone that feeds on Algae vs a filter feeder like an oyster. I really
don't know anything about the contamination of the pacific oysters in our area
if any. However, the SeaGrant article suggests not consuming them which I
think is excellent advice, in addition we are in the regular CDFW quarantine
for other filter feeders such as mussels. You will have to look up the fishing
regulations as I don't recall what those are.
Cheers, David
