3000+ Common Dolphins
Another magnificent day on the water! We had multiple pods of Common Dolphins
not long after leaving the harbor. Continued well into the first couple of
hours on our trip. Captain Colton announced to the passengers : "Every Common
Dolphin in the Pacific must be out here today".
Captain Colton did a wonderful job spotting several feeding frenzies in the
distance to which we headed. We were in the middle of the shipping lanes
between Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa where we finally came upon Sooty Sheerwaters,
dolphins, pelicans, and sea lions all feeding when we spotted our first
Humpback. Lucky for us, there were 6 more we were able to closely observe all
around the boat with several more in the distance including some lunge feeding.
It's a wonderful feeling to see the excitement of the passengers seeing their
first whale on trips like today. Not only the passengers from abroad but also
the locals who for whatever reason haven't gone whale watching in our channel.
Until I board again,
