2 Minke Whales
1 Stellar Sea Lion
1,500 - 2,000 Common Dolphin
Sunshine & unlimited visibility. We started the day with a male stellar sea
lion on the entrance buoy - to the consternation of the California sea lions
who wanted the space!
Proceeding south, we hit the first of 3 dolphin pods feeding. We team west as
far as platform Holly, but the wind and swell made for a rough ride, so we
turned east.
We saw our second pod of dolphin as we proceeded east, and, about even with
Carpinteria, ran into a feeding frenzy of all the birds, common dolphin, sea
lions, and 2 minke whales.
The minkes were less shy than usual, with one giving us a great look, surfacing
just in front of the boat.
