As per Naturalist Paul, I’m including a few observations as an addendum to
this trip on the Azure Seas as I was aboard as a shadow. The last
sighting we had was of a least one adult Grey, approximately two miles from the
wharf and about the same distance off shore. There was a blow and soon after a
fluking was seen by a few aboard who were fortunate to be looking in that
direction. Skipper Taylor loitered for awhile to allow others to see what they
could before heading back. As an FYI, Naturalist Paul recorded all of our
whale observations with Whale Alert on his phone. I observed on my iPad as he
did so. There was a 30 to 60 min delay before his sightings could be seen and
registered on the Ap’s map of the SB Channel.
Great crew on the Azure Seas and all guests seem to have a fun on this
afternoon trip.
An extra shout out to fellow Scripp’s Murrelet flock member Helen on being
certified today...nice going!

Collegues, Skipper Taylor too the Azure Seas and a full boat of passengers up
along the coast of Santa Barbara to Moore Mesa near Goleta. Total sightings : 4
Grays, with one definite Mom/calf pair which we followed for some time. Fully
about 10 passengers aboard saw their first whales ever, and were given
recognition and and a “thumbs up!” Skipper Taylor had Noah and Peter as his
able body crew. Are last sighting came as we approached the harbor entrance and
no one complained about the skippers’s extension, and late arrival to port!
John Chackel shadowed me and will go for his certification Wednesday. Cheers,
