4 MNs with a few more in the area
250 offshore Bottlenose Dolphins
1 zillion CA sea lions
We left the harbor in full fog, and it stayed us most of the day.
1st Humpback was off UCSB, we stayed with it for a bit and then headed off
shore to West Santa Cruz island and East Santa Rosa island where we found a
large group of CA sea lions, about 250 Offshore Bottlenose dolphins and at
least 3 humpbacks all feeding on anchovies. (from the looks of the whale poo).
There we other blows in the area, but we focused on this group who were all
feeding together. Of course, there were diving birds joining in and it was an
amazing sight for the whale watchers to see so many species together.
The group was treated with a wonderfully detailed intro by Moonyeen Powers, and
I was on PID.
