ADDISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A 43-year-old father and his 20-month-old son were
killed Monday night in a house explosion in Addison Township in northern
Oakland County.

Michael Revest and his son, Gage, were killed in the blaze. Revest had
reportedly built the log cabin the family lived in in Addison Township. The
cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A neighbor heard the explosion around 7 p.m. Monday and ran to the scene on
Haven Road, finding 6-year-old Hunter standing outside in his pajamas, Local 4
reported. The boy reportedly escaped through a blown-out window.

"He was able to tell her that he was in the house watching television when
there was an explosion and a fire, and he was able to get out of the house,"
Capt. Mark Newman of the Addison Township Fire Department said.

Firefighters later found the bodies of the father and infant son in the
basement, Local 4 reported.

The home was engulfed in flames as firefighters used water out of a nearby lake
to battle the blaze. The house is located at the top of a steep hill, which
also made it difficult for firefighters because snow and ice surround the home,
the station reported.

Oakland County salt trucks were used to help emergency vehicles get to the

Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze.

Neighbors said the home was heated by propane or fuel oil, so firefighters do
not believe there were any natural gas lines running to the house that could
have exploded, the station reported.

The mother and sister were out of the house at the time of the explosion and
were reportedly at the girl's dance class when they received the news.

Investigators were at the scene searching through the remnants to determine the
cause of the explosion.
