The U.S. Fire Administration has received notice of the following
firefighter fatalities:

Name:  Curtis W. Meyran
Rank:  Lieutenant
Age:  46

Time of Incident:  0758 Hrs
Date of Death:  01/23/2005

Fire Department Name:  Battalion 26 
Fire Department:  City of New York 
Fire Department Address:  9 Metro Tech, Brooklyn, NY  11201 Fire

Fire Department Chief:  Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scopetta

Cause of Death:  Lieutenant Meyran was fatally injured battling a third
alarm fire in a four-story apartment building.  Lieutenant Meyran and
Firefighter Bellew were treated at the scene and transported to St.
Barnabas Hospital where both succumbed to their injuries.

Wake Arrangements:  Visitation will be Thursday, January 27th and Friday,
January 28th from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-10pm at Kraus Funeral Home, Inc., 1097
Hempstead Turnpike (Route 24), Franklin Square (Long Island), New York

Funeral Arrangements:  Saturday, January 29th at 10am at Our Lady of Lords
Church, 65 Wright Ave., Malverne, New York.  Burial to follow at Holy Rood

Cause of Death:  While battling a second alarm fire in East New York,
Brooklyn Firefighter Sclafani and members of Ladder 103 entered the
basement of the building, where the fire originated.  During the search
operations, Firefighter Sclafani became separated from his colleagues.  He
was found minutes later unconscious and in respiratory arrest on the
cellar staircase.  He was transported to Brookdale Hospital where he died
a short time later.

Wake Arrangements:  Visitation will be Wednesday, January 26th and
Thursday, January 27th from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm at the Colonial Funeral
