September 27, 2013 TIGERS 42 New Madrid County Central 0 A beautiful night for SEMO Central Conference play as our Tigers traveled north to take on the Eagles of New Madrid County Central. It took a little while for the Tigers to get things rolling, but by the end of the 1st half the Tigers were in command 28-0. The Tigers would return the 2nd half kickoff to increase their lead to 35-0, and with a running clock would tack on one more score, while holding the Eagles scoreless, with the Tigers winning 42-0. The Tigers showed a very balanced attack tonight, and showed that they have multiple weapons on offense racking up 350 yards. Obviously, the Tiger defense did their job, shutting out the Eagles and only allowing 79 yards on 42 plays. Tiger QB Tyler Grissom again showed that he is a dual threat, completing 9 of 14 passes for 156 yards, a TD and NO Ints, and rushing 13 times for 89 yards and 2 TDs. Tiger star Darrell Monroe may have only rushed for 37 yards, but he had a TD, and he obviously drew much attention from the Eagle defenders, which opened up other avenues of offensive success for the Tigers. Rod Jones also had 37 rushing yards. Hunter Trevathan carried for 26 yards, and had a nice 13 yard TD run! The Tigers had 5 receivers catching passes. Abdul Johnson led the Tiger receivers with 3 catches for 61 yards and a TD. Abdul also had another catch…an INT on defense. Jamal Johnson had 2 catches for 50 yards (more on ‘Mal later). Colt Callens had 1 catch for 23 yards (more on Colt later, too.). Thomas Young had 2 catches for 22 yards. Trevathan had 1 catch for no gain. Very difficult to pick out a defensive star for the Tigers, as the Tiger defense played very good team defense. Monroe led the Tiger tacklers, including 4 tackles for losses! Joey Middleton, Malik Monroe, Colt Callens, Landon Stricklin, Thomas Young, Rod Jones, Peyton Faulkner, Grant Marshall, and all Tiger defenders did an excellent job tonight. Jamal Johnson ended any Eagles hope of making a comeback in the 2nd half when he returned the 2nd half kickoff 94 yards for a TD. Jamal also had a long punt return for a TD negated by a Tiger holding penalty. Colt Callens had a fumble recovery…and also 6 absolutely gorgeous soccer-style PATs…and 2 BOOMING punts. Great to see the Tiger kicking game, and special teams coming together. Special teams scored a TD for the 2nd consecutive game, and also had a beautiful onside kick recovery. The win pushes the Tigers record to 4-1, while the Eagles drop to 2-3. The Tigers have an open date next Friday, and will next face the Kennett Indians at Hopke Field on October 11 for Homecoming.
