Hello Paul, Nicholas, and all,
Thanks! I'm pretty sure I now have gradients in the k's as well! And thanks for the other links as well as the gray-scale view. I'm having so much fun  building images I'm having a hard time getting away from my computer and into my studio to paint them, which is why I started this in the first place.

how to add color. I've found some
"random" gradients that I would have
liked to save but the gradient "save"
options always grayed out. Why?
Where were the gradient presets made,
or more to the point, is there a
gradient editor hidden somewhere?

I have well over 2,000 .MAP files in my collection, with close to 1,700
available at the following URL:

And there are several programs available to create as many more of these
as one wishes:

"Make Map" by Ronald E. Barnett

Ron created that program over a decade ago, and it is still
being used by many people today. I am sure he would enjoy
a visit and/or an email from those using his software.

"MapMaker" by Jack A. Orman

"Automatic Fractal MAP Generator" (AFMP) by Paolo Guagliumi

 etc......
