Don't know if this was asked before, but I'd like to have an INI file
 like Fractint's, to customize a directory structure for palette
maps, attractor sources, saved images, etcetera.

I think "default directories saved in Preferences" fits your description. You didn't read the original post. As a punition you will have to measure the circumference of the Mandelbrot set. :-)
