Hi folks, we're into week five of our full return to live programming and I
have a few more things rolling out this week.
First, we have seven more volunteers who started training this week, so they'll
be doing sit ins next week. Do your best to help them out with sit in time,
answer their questions and guide them to good programming techniques. Another
volunteer, Hadi (Thursdays 5-6 PM), has finished training and will be starting
their show this week.
This coming week, I'll be bringing back our playlist contests. The contests
work like this: I reward an on air programmer each week with a free CD for
taking time to explore in new directions. Basically, if you play an album from
the playlist that hasn't been played much before, or I see you playing music
and stretching your programming muscles to include different styles of music, I
reward that. Variety and exploration are vital skills to have as a programmer
and you should be working to try new sounds and experience in your show as much
as you can. So, the more you explore and experiment, the more chances you will
have to win music and the more your audience will appreciate what you are
doing. I'll be rewarding the first volunteer next week.
Another thing returning next week are artist interviews. I get requests all the
time to interview musicians, and I pass those requests on to you so you can
interview them yourself as part of your show. To get involved, simply let me
know which artist you want to talk to, I will talk to them and get you in touch
with them, and you can set up the interview. How you interview is up to you.
You can record it at home over the internet through Zoom or Skype, or in our
production studio over the phone or through the internet. You can even have a
face to face meeting if they happen to be in town, or (eventually, once safety
measures allow it) bring them into the booth for a live interview on the air.
In general, we want the interview recorded so you can play it on your show, and
so we can produce it into one of our Talent Showcases, which help fill our
spoken word requirements for the CRTC. You can also get involved in audio
production and help other volunteers produce their interviews. The first list
should be out early next week.
Lastly, I noticed the logger program on the in booth computer had not been
updated with some changes to playlist requirements, so blues and country had
been set to 1 playlist selection rather than two. So, they are now updated and
will let you know if you are low on those playlist requirements.
Remember to join the CFBX Volunteers Facebook group here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1576165279371162 ;
This is a place to talk with other volunteers casually, share ideas and talk
about the station. It's a great way to meet other volunteers and help each
other out.
Remember to use our own social media too to help promote your show. Links to
our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages are on the website, and passwords are
posted up in the booth. If you have your own social media pages set up for your
show, send the links to me and I can link back to you on our pages and our
website.
Thanks!
