Hi folks, here's this week's news
First, July is just around the corner, which means vacations and music
festivals. With vacations, there will be a bunch of fill in spots coming up
with volunteers heading out for some much needed vacation time, but this means
there's a great opportunity for new and veteran volunteers to get more time on
the air, both as fill ins for those vacationing volunteers and chances to try
out different styles of programming. Jump on these opportunities when they come
up. Getting that extra time on the air can be invaluable for new programmers,
and trying out something different helps veterans clear out the cobwebs from
research and programming skills not focused on in your own show. If you are a
volunteer in training, get your training finished up so we can get you on the
air. We'll need every volunteer we can get to help us get through the rest of
the summer.
Which reminds me, we can now add Rob Weins to our program schedule. Rob took on
the Thursday 4-5 PM spot this week with his show The Sink, and he did a great
job!
Music Festivals means interviews and reviews. If you are heading to a music
festival this summer, contact me and I can likely get you some press pass
coverage to get you access to the artists there for interviews. Alternately,
you can do this yourself by contacting the festival coordinators, just let me
know what's going on so I don't get blindsided by the promoters contacting me.
Bring along a recorder, or download a recording app for your phone, bring extra
batteries and bring along a camera too. You can air your interviews on your
show, and we can take them and turn them into syndicated programming for our
Canadian Talent Showcases. Take some pictures, and you can write up a review of
the festival for our website. Goodwill generated between our station and
festivals is very valuable and helps us cross-promote, and get more interviews
and music in the future.
I've been doing a bit of work on the online library this week. I've been
working on the Worldbeat section, and indexing it so I can update the thematic
lists. I want to get more info in there for our international programmers, who
often have trouble finding music from their country to play, and Canadian
artists to include. I've updated the South Asian list this week, and I'm now
working on the African list. You can find the thematic lists on the tab on the
top of the documents for the Google Drive link to our library. Just double
click on the folder that says "Thematic Lists".
New volunteers, remember to join the CFBX Volunteers Facebook page too. It's a
great place to share information informally and talk about the station. The
