Hi folks, a couple of reminders about on and off air policy to run over, since
I've seen a bit of confusion on them.
First, remember to log any off air volunteering hours in the main lobby. This
log is just for off air volunteer hours, not for any time you use to put your
own show together, like research or the actual time you air your show. Off air
hours are any volunteering you do outside of your show, like library work,
supervision and mentoring, typing, fill in spots, board and committee work and
the like. I'll be getting back to everyone in the near future about off air
volunteering once all our new volunteers have been trained up.
Second, a reminder about copyrights and what music you can or cannot broadcast.
Remember, the only music allowed for broadcast is music that has been legally
bought or legally available. So, if you have bought an album or song on CD,
vinyl, cassette or digitally, you can air it with no issues with copyright. If
you have a legally obtained copy from a friend, or from a library like the TNRD
library or our own music library, you can legally broadcast it. You need to
have the music as a physical copy (like a CD or record) or a file that you have
on your computer or player.
You don't have the right to play music off of a streaming service, like
Spotify, iTunes or Youtube. On these services, you have no way to actually buy
the music, it exists entirely on the streaming service, so you have no right to
broadcast it on CFBX. Same goes for anything you've gotten from a file-sharing
service, or downloaded from a source other than from the artist themselves.
And, of course, never download any of these streaming services on our
computers. If you have downloaded material from an artist, make sure you get
permission from the artist themselves before you air it.
Remember, if you want to play a piece of music, make sure the source is legal
and it is available to be purchased. If it isn't, then you have no right to
play it on the air. If you need clarification on the rules around music
copyrights, please contact me and I'll be happy to help you.
Lastly, remember, no food or drink in any of the upstairs studios. We have a
lot of sensetive equipment that we cannot afford to get damaged. If you need to
have water or food, put it out on the landing, never bring it into the booth.
Thanks!
