Dear All,
I am sorry to say that, as many of you know, I have had and still am having
vocal problems.
My problems have continued to deteriorate from lack of use over these last
months and
I find the problems insurmountable and that I am not able to control them nor
correct them.
So it seams time to move on to other adventures in whatever years that I have
left.
So I am resigning from the Carolyn Singers.
I wish to tell each of you that I love you and that I am very grateful that you
all have been in my life.
It has been a privilege to have performed with such talented and gifted
musicians.
Thank you all for your friendship, support and encouragement.
Carolyn, I do love you and I admire your musicianship. creativity and expertise.
I have learned much from watching you teach us and I want to thank you for
allowing me
to travel with you on your wonderful musical journey for the past two years.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Love to all. Be safe!

Even if we learn the music well, whether rehearsing virtually or face to
face, we may not have the assurance of a place to perform. Even if we have a
place to perform, we may not have an audience. This means the whole effort
could be pointless if we start too soon. We also need to take into account the
comfort level of all singers, so my vote is for #3.

Hello, Happy summer and we all await cooler temps. I'm lonesome for each of
you and thank you for staying in touch over the summer.Up til today the
following has been accomplished;
1- Beethoven and other music has been ordered and Pat f. will distribute in
Sept. tbd.2- no church will house our rehearsals due to covid and insurance
concerns3- 2 grants have been written for $ for May 2 orchestra players, no
answer yet4- Nellie has been practicing the Beethoven piano virtuoso music for
Choral Fantasy5- research for face masks has been done by me on webinar6- John
Wanat has invested hours of self learning and ACDA conference re; tech needed
for virtual rehearsals and streaming.7- no auditions have occured yet, except
one; John Sipple, basso, who was Charles Dickens.8- the BOD meets here via zoom
or physical attendance to FINALIZE our decision to start or not.9- Bruce Pulk,
PSO timpanist and past BOD member and long time friend, has agreed to organize
the 22 players for our orchestra. No orchestra is working now.
So, now;your input, vote and commitment must shape the BOD decision on AUG 15. I
intend on calling each of you between Sat and Friday so this is your homework
prior to my call please.
We have options; Ive called 5 local choirs;; heres the summary1- Sonoran Desert
Chorale out of MESA has canceled their whole season .2- West Valley chorale in
Surprise, canceled til Jan?3- Valley Chamber, folded for now.4- PROMUSICA is
holding virtual choral technique classes for $45 which is subtracted from their
dues.5- North Valley Chorale will virtually rehearse and hope to stream at
xmas.6- all church choirs are disbanded due to insurance as well as health risk.
so.CES has been discussing our choices and alternatives; please know that we
all must be flexible, patient, healthy and respectful . I want you to reply ALL
when you answer this questionnaire. keep your comments respectful because we
probably will not all agree.
Vote for 1; write in any comments to me or JOHN WANAT, since he is MR. Tech and
we can not DO rehearsals virtually, without him. After trying zoom with you in
April, we quickly learned that for singing, it is not acceptable. So other
platforms are available now; many conductors have been innovative but we all
must learn from one another.
Choices;1- MEET AT C E house every TUES OUTDOORS ,sectionals only, wear masks
until we sing; stand (sit 6 ft apart) women one week, men the next;7 - 9pm with
break. _________
2- Virtual rehearsals with the help of Nellie who would play accompaniments,
and voice parts.John would send them out or you retrieve them on sharepoint.
Caroly would work with sections at the beginning, including individual vocal
tutoring. details to be worked out. ________
3- CANCEL everything until Jan 2, to wait out the covid threat _________. Keep
in touch via zoom, have Beethoven scores, Misa Azteca, Gondoliers, West Side
Story, and Oye La Musica.New holiday music would be selected from the PAST. For
streaming at Dec 12?new Music from last May's concert are Give Me Your Tired,
your poor, Sing Community Sing Peace ,would be taught virtually or on
sharepoint.
4- VOTE YES OR NO FOR THIS separately from above. _________WOULD YOU sell 4
tix and bring yourself to the private home where Sheridan abides in Paradise
Valley for an outdoor silent auction and mini concert, where the Champagne and
Chocolate party would be held SAT Oct 17 at 4;00pm There is a large backyard
where we can put up bar, food, and auction. There is an indoor grand piano with
elevated living room if soloists would sing and play... (Joe Bousard, pianist
from last year, can not play) Nellie would play for all of us.Our host said we
might be able to postpone the party til late February 2021?
5- Virtually, would you prepare weekly for my one on one tutoring with each of
you, on music and vocal quality. It would be weekly, at the beginning of
September to see how you feel about it. I estimate 20 min per singer,
culminating in October with larger groups. All men, or ALL women. but at the
beginning, we would work one on one to build technique._______
So there are several choices; anyone has any better solutions please; write
everyone...
return this to ME and REPLY ALL by Monday Aug 10 please.
many thanks, I need to know YOUR PERSONAL COMMITMENT to make ANY of the above
solutions, possible.
This is our 14th season...lets see if we can stand together in one way or
another. I have no pretense on the BEST way.
TAKE CARE Boss Lady!
