Registration is free but, to help estimate numbers for catering, please email David Reid at d.reid@xxxxxxxxx<mailto:d.reid@xxxxxxxxx> if you plan to attend ------------------------------------ Future events: ------------------------------------ Challenges in Macroecology: Scaling the Time Barrier (A one-day meeting sponsored by the Natural History Museum, the Palaeontological Association and the British Ecological Society exploring the links between palaeontology and macroecology) Date: 1st April 2014, Venue Natural History Museum, London With an emphasis on discussion and networking opportunities, we aim to facilitate new collaborations between palaeo- and neontological macroecologists, and determine the strengths and limitations of integrating concepts, questions and data across timescales. There will be keynote talks from David Jablonski (U. Chicago), Kathy Willis (Kew) and Lee Hsiang Liow (U. Oslo), and an open call for 'lightning talks' (5 minutes). Call for lightning talks: We invite submissions (title only) for lightning talks. Any aspect of long-timescale macroecology and the integration of fossil data into the ecological research agenda are welcome e.g. Diversity gradients through time; biodiversity hotspots; the role of history in shaping the modern biota; temporal scaling of macroecological patterns and processes; ecosystem resilience past and present; data and methods across timescales. Biological collections (e.g. museum, herbarium or living specimens) are at the front line of biodiversity research, informing taxonomy, evolution, conservation and sustainable livelihoods. As the genomic era dawns, generating DNA data at an unprecedented scale, collections-based researchers must adapt and respond to the new opportunities that these technologies present. This meeting will bring together genomics experts, collections-based researchers and curators to explore next generation sequencing methods. Sessions will range from practical aspects to applications in phylogenetics, museomics and conservation. ------------------------------------ If you would like to include a seminar, event or a seminar series to the CEE, please e-mail details of the event, at least two weeks before the seminar date, to cee@xxxxxxxxx<mailto:cee@xxxxxxxxx>. Once accepted your event will be publicised on the calendar below, via e-mail and to the twitter community.
