I suggest that all speakers send in advance copies of their slides to the
organizers, and that the organizers make these available online in advance and
on site. This way those of us who wish can follow along on our laptops and if
necessary look back at bygone slides for forgotten notation, definitions,
theorems, etc. without interrupting the flow of the talk. This projection
technology is great, but slides flickering by fast are in some ways not as
communicative as writing that stays at least for a while on a blackboard. Sandi
suggests also that then one could prepare for talks by looking over slides
beforehand, making for a more informed and readily receptive audience. I would
like to see this plan followed at all conferences. --Karl

Dear friends,
The Carolina Dynamics Symposium is coming up soon (April 13-15)! There’s
updated information on the
website<http://www.devio.us/~ppunosevac/cdynsys/pmwiki.php?n=Symposium2018.Overview>
If you’re planning on coming and you haven’t already registered, please do
so
here<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd18QqD67kBksKE6uwRvxdj3NKwX4H9CE1EjewVYbH0-O-Zzg/viewform>.
We plan to publish proceedings from the conference, edited by the two 2018
Carolina Dynamics co-organizers, Rachel Rossetti and Jim Wiseman, along with
Jane Hawkins from UNC Chapel Hill. We invite everyone who attends (not just
the speakers) to submit a manuscript to the proceedings. The manuscripts will
be refereed as a journal publication and subject to the same standards
(originality and previously unpublished results). You can also consider
writing a survey article of a topic of current interest to you and others in
dynamics. If you haven’t already, please let us know if you’re potentially
interested in submitting a manuscript. We’re trying to gauge interest, so if
you’re definitely not interested, please let us know that too.
Finally, the conference dinner will be at 6:30 on Saturday, April 14, at Wahoo
Grill<https://www.wahoogrilldecatur.com>. The people who indicated on their
registration that they were attending the dinner are listed below. If you
would like us to add or remove your name, please let us know by Wednesday,
April 4.
Best wishes,
Jim Wiseman
