I'm not sure, maybe this is the sort of thing you're looking for: I had a
Ph. D. student who was working on his thesis in complex dynamics. I spoke
at the last Chapel Hill CDS on his then-current results. Jane Hawkins (who
sometimes works in complex dynamics) saw the talk, heard some of our open
questions, and talked with me later about it, both during coffee and at
dinner. She had some suggestions as well as a specific, related question
she was interested in.
Those suggestions formed the basis of the second half of his thesis, and we
were able to answer her question, leading to the second paper out of his
thesis. As a newbie to complex, I did not have the perspective that Jane
did, and she helped us immensely.

inspired by or started because of the Carolina Dynamics meetings. We'd
appreciate this information at your earliest convenience.
In addition if you think you might have undergraduates who would like to
participate in CDS, let us know. If you are teaching a dynamics related
course and would like to use the CDS as a place for them to present
projects let us know that as well. Right now, we are planning to have the
spring 2020 meeting at Davidson College.
