By "protection" , what are you protecting against? I assume primarily it
is abrasion from stones etc thrown up by the wheels. I am no expert in
specific products but maybe something like this would do the job (others
please comment) ..

However, you might be considering protection from galvanic action between
the steel frame and the sheet aluminium. This often comes up in kit car
forums and the general consensus usually seems to be that in a dry
environment this is unlikely to be a problem in the design life of the car.
I have seen suggestions to put an insulating tape between the two metals,
but I can't see this helping much as any erosion of the aluminium is most
likely to be focused in the area immediately adjacent to the rivets, or the
rivets themselves. Maybe a long term maintenance procedure would be to
replace the rivets with new ones, one size bigger, if any problem develops.
