[cc-lists] Status update: blocking is getting worse, but firewall changes might provide relief

Hi all,

Outgoing mail from colonial.net is being blocked by even more providers
right now, not just Earthlink. We're now being blocked by Comcast, Verizon,
and Google, just to name a few. (Ironically, freelists.org is now blocking
colonial.net, too, so the district folks won't be able to reply to this
list. :-( )

Most of the PTG messages sent out today and tomorrow will be delayed until
we're unblocked. Clearly, this is a major annoyance. Ideally, folks would
hold sending new messages until we're unblocked.

And this is an even more serious issue for the district, as it affects all
of their mail systems, not just the PTG list server. Faculty and staff are
unable to reach colleagues and services by e-mail.

However, there may relief coming: this evening Gene&Co made a critical
change in their network configuration which may significantly improve the
behavior of the entire system, basically keeping adrian from receiving and
then re-transmitting spam. (*Note: *such spam was never getting to the
lists, just into the mailboxes of people like me who are reachable through
aliases like cms-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)

If this works we should be able to get colonial.net removed from the
blacklists and, hopefully, it will then stay off them, and everyone's mail,
including the PTGs, will flow again.

We'll keep you posted.

Cheers,
Richard
