My view...

You are already getting into scripting options!!!

Stop it.

Implement two or three of the hybrid approaches and move on. This 
ensures that
you code it sufficiently generically to add another menu option later 
but you don't
slow yourself down nor do you slow the modder with the option to build 
their own
interface.
