Dear all,
Re. Spencer workers on the site this week: I received this from Chris Penn this
afternoon. Please note the section in our email to him in red, stating that we
are not in any way blaming the workers - we believe that it is the management
who are ultimately responsible if they are directing them to do this work..
And please note the online meeting on 6th May.
Best wishes,
Peter
Dear Peter,
Thank you for your email.
We take reports of site Health & Safety being breached very seriously. I want
to reassure you that we will be conducting a full investigation and will take
appropriate action where required.
Going forward, we have finalised the initial details for the online meeting
which will take place on Wednesday 6th May at 18.30 – more details will follow
next week. We hope that you and Sian would be able to attend.
Best regards,
Chris

Dear Chris Penn,
Industrial trainwash building site construction behind Great Eastern Street,
Romsey, Cambridge.
Myself, my partner and a neighbour here on Great Eastern Street today, 23rd
April, observed your workers on the building site for the above building
project. We observed that they were working together in close proximity, so
breaking government guidelines.
As you are the managers of this project we are alerting you to the fact that
you are putting your employees in jeopardy, making them do work for which they
are not able to practice the social distancing guidelines mandated in March by
the UK government.
Our neighbour has photographic evidence of this breaking of the guidelines
which we can produce. We do not in any way blame the workers as it is very
clear from the UK government that the company/employer must ensure the
conditions for practising social distancing are met before directing employees
to undertake work.
It is obvious from observing the work that it would be impossible to carry it
out and observe the guidelines.
We ask that you cease all work on the site until the current social-distancing
provisions have been lifted by the government. We ask that you assure us of
this by 1pm on Friday 24th April. If we do not receive this assurance we will
be taking this matter to the authorities and the media.
Yours faithfully,
Peter Joseph

G’day Sean,
Thanks for this. Sian and I are happy to put in more on the CrowdJustice site.
Will do that today.
On a different tack: you said I think last week that it would be good for all
of us to keep up the pressure on Network Rail, GTR, Greater Anglia. I agree -
it is important for them to hear from individuals, particularly as Spencer seem
to be continuing - my own speculation is that they are currently doing what
work they can on the site, social distancing permitting, so that they can then
build in earnest once the UK has a partial lift on the lockdown.
Yesterday I wrote to Emma Baker of Network Rail in response to her reply about
the FOI request. You can see it at
https://www.facebook.com/GreatEasternCambridge/
As I state there I have cc’ed in the Network Rail CEO, as well as another NR
manager who seems to be responsible for infrastructure, and Chris Penn of GTR.
What I ask of everyone: could you also write/email them? If anyone has
suggestions of others to contact, please let us know, preferably with email
addresses.
Best wishes,
Peter Joseph

Subject: Third update on legal action - the bill comes in
G'day all,
We're waiting on a response to our April 17th letter to the CCC. The response
is requested by Friday April 24th.
We now have the bill for this initial action. The total has come in at £4428,
which is little higher than our initial approximate stretch goal (of £3370). I
have attached an image of the first page, which shows the breakdown of
solicitors' fees, barristers' fees, and VAT.
As you can see on CrowdJustice, we had raised £2270, which is an amazing
effort. I was waiting for the final invoice before I made a push for more funds.
So, I know it's a hard time, but if you have a few pounds, please chip in at
https://www.crowdjustice.com/case/quashthetrainwash/.
As promised, I will ensure that the invoice is paid in full if necessary. I
would like this payment wrapped up by mid-May (our last day on CrowdJustice is
Mary 16th).
Until anon, Sean
