Oh sorry everyone, I put out a note last night to meet tonight at 8pm. How many
people can make that?

Subject: Re: Next steps for the Trainwash campaign
Thank you Dave,
Regarding our meeting, how would Friday this week be for people then?
Petition signed! I guess the idea would be a car traffic diversion similar to
that in place on Mill Road Fair day, but for the duration of lockdown?
Good idea I think, and perhaps also an interesting experiment to identify
ways to ease traffic in the longer term who knows.

Sophie

Well done everyone; I think the meeting with ‘the railways’ went rather well.
The possibility that there are discussions with City Council is a testimony
to your efforts. I would not be in this loop because our officers, quite
rightly, keep separate from councillors when these sort of negotiations take
place. There is unlikely to be any decision to change the situation arising
from these discussions – that would be made by planning committee.
I can never make a Tuesday, so if you go ahead then I must send apologise.
Any other night next week may be difficult too; officers are canvassing for a
date for East Area Committee.
In the background to all this, I am campaigning to make Mill Road safer. It
would be useful if you could sign our petition and read the approach at
https://overmillroadbridge.org.uk/ Ultimately the plan is to get traffic ;
radically reduced and potentially to shut the bridge to all but buses and
emergency vehicles. My thoughts are probably similar to yours, so sharing
the petition would be very helpful.
Thanks
Keep us the quoshing

Subject: Next steps for the Trainwash campaign
G’day all,
Last week’s GTR community meeting was more or less a repeat of the previous
one, but nevertheless valuable to get across the community’s depth of feeling
and their need to provide better answers.
The good things we learned are that the CCC and NR/GTR are in legal
discussion about whether this is permitted development, and our own legal
push helped make this happen.
We also learned that GTR has redesigned the Trainwash to be about a metre
shorter, reducing some shade and bulk. That happened because of our ongoing
complaints, so if we have to live with this thing, at least we did achieve
one win.
But we’re not done yet. To that end, we should have another online community
meeting soon. We could do it this week or next, and maybe keep the Tuesday
night at 7:30 time slot? Please let me know your preferences (incl
alternatives).
We also need to keep up our blog and twitter pressure. We’ve been a bit quiet
on that front. It would really help the media team if a few folks could put
together a few sentences about last week’s meeting. We can then combine them
into one post and a few tweets. Please just send your responses to this post,
or in WhatsApp.
Other ideas for posts or campaigns are appreciated. Hannah has a positive
campaign idea on the boil, so stay tuned for that.
Finally, on the legal front, I’m very pleased to report that we appear to
have met our fundraising target! Woohoo! I received an invoice from the
lawyers for the second letter that came in the same as the quote (the
solicitors actually gave us a substantial discount to ensure that they
matched). So, I believe that we have now paid all our legal bills for the
current action. We now wait to see what the CCC announces. I don’t have a
timeframe for that.
So, stay well, and your reports and thoughts on last week’s meeting.
Until anon, Sean
