Hello all-
I realised somewhat belatedly that we didn’t book the pub for Tuesday, any
chance anyone else has? We can check later when they’re open but wanted to
consult you all first.
Thanks,
Cherie

Hello again. Here is a letter that Sian sent this morning also to the 3 at

With the facility you are proposing which you propose to operate 24/7 you are
prioritising the welfare of trains which are inanimate objects over the
welfare of living, breathing, feeling human beings. The facility will be
harmful in the following ways:
One: continuous mechanical noise has a damaging effect on the human nervous
system The claim you make that the noise will be at most 40 dB is
inconsistent with Roger Perkins on radio Cambridge being unable to assure us
that our sleep would not be disturbed by the facility.
Two: Melatonin which is needed for sleep is promoted by darkness. The lights
which you will be using all night long will have a damaging effect on peoples
sleep.
Three: There will inevitably be a leakage of chemicals into the soil and air
around. This will affect peoples lungs and is being particularly damaging for
people with respiratory tract conditions such as asthma.
With climate change and increasingly hot summers (it was 38° in Cambridge
last summer) residents will need to keep their windows open including at
night and will be exposed to all the damaging effects referred to above.
If you go ahead with this unwise siting of the trainwash it will only be a
matter of time before people start getting ill. We are not a passive
community at great Eastern Street. On the contrary we are a vibrant,
supportive, proactive community. Parents will not sit back and watch their
children suffer. Neighbours will not sit back and watch their fellow
neighbours suffering. You will find yourselves faced by A string of legal
actions against you for damages to health sustained by the affects of the
train wash. In time you will almost certainly have to dismantle it and move
it to another site as has happened in other places in the country. If you
contemplate the expense all this will involve, Of having to dismantle an
existing facility, to move it and then rebuild it not to mention the costly
damages you will have had to pay out as compensation for peoples loss of
health then you will not need to be an accountant to recognise that you are
better off writing off the investment you have already made and starting
afresh in a site where you will not be causing Such problems to other human
beings And thus not facing so many problems for yourself.
So far I am outlining the consequences you will experience at a financial
level. However there are far more serious consequences to yourselves if you
continue as planned. As you go to sleep over the next few nights imagine how
you would feel if it was your 10-year-old son who was unable to sleep at
night… If it was your sensitive 17-year-old daughter who started having
palpitations and panic attacks brought on through the stress to her nervous
system caused by constant exposure to vibration and noise… If it was your
elderly asthmatic mother who started having attacks where she was finding it
frighteningly difficult to breathe......
I recognise that it will take considerable courage to halt this process which
you have unwisely allowed to go so far without the transparency which brings
forward a recognition of the consequences which we are now making you aware
of. Nonetheless I have confidence that you all between you have the
confidence and good sense to make the changes needed at this point so that
you will not in the future be living with The knowledge that you have acted
in ways which are harmful to other human beings . Having a clear conscience
is one of the greatest sources of happiness a human being can possess. Living
with the consciousness of having done harm to many people is a weighty And
harmful thing. I exhort and encourage you to act promptly in ways which will
avert harm To yourselves and others.

I am really sorry but the Tuesday meeting is the same time as we meet as a
labour group to organise the council. I really want to be part of your team -
Is it possible that you could consider another day or starting at 1800 or
even 1730?

Dear all
Re meeting on Tuesday evening - I'm happy to help chair/ facilitate and keep
an eye on time unless someone else prefers to do it. I do it regularly as
part of my job.
I'm also free on Sunday afternoon to help knocking on people's doors.

Sounds great, Cherie, and really important to get someone with that kind of
experience along to support us. Really interested to hear what he says.
Sunday afternoon to canvas with neighbours would work well for me. Do you
have any more green leaflets that we could take around with us? I’m happy to
print more too.
Best

G’day all,
I’m happy to set up, fund, and maintain a website for our efforts. All we
need is a name. Any thoughts?
Re communication: As we go forward we will need document storage and the
ability to search messages and documents. Email and FreeLists will only get
us partway there and it will be easy to get lost. The website above could
also include a members’ only forum for discussion and document storage.
Usually these forums have email notifications of new messages, so those who
only want to use email will still be able to interact.
There are many other options (Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google apps etc) but
I’m trying to find the lowest barrier to entry.
I will send a duplicate of this email to the list.
Until anon, Sean
