Hi Elizabeth,
This was a good email you sent, thanks for sharing.
I expressed a similar concern for our homes foundations in my complaint letter
about the noise, for what that was worth.Haven't bothered replying to Alex
Nix'es reply.
I've not followed up yet with the structural engineers I contacted on Monday
for advice, I hope to find the time today.
Talking of health impacts, I'm starting to get mightily fed up with that diesel
power engine at the foot of the bridge they still seem to use to power the
construction site - early this morning when I went out, the smoke and smell of
the exhausts were just appalling, and it's often on, even when there's no work.
I'll investigate if we can at least do something about that, from an air
quality perspective - it is bound to be a huge black mark.
Anybody has any thougts or knowledge on this other nuisance?
Cheers
Sophie

Hi all,Some of you might be interested in my exchange with Stephen Kelly last
week - this was before the piling work.
I sent an email to Alex Nix on Monday, with the link to my tweet with video. He
copied in a general city planning email when he replied (which might go to
Stephen Kelly). I haven't yet replied to him on that.
I would imagine that the council are well aware of the appalling nature of this
train wash by now. But yes, to answer Sian's question on the Whatsapp group, it
might help if we all write to the council to express our dismay at having the
train wash behind our homes.

Dear Elizabeth,
Thank you for your email. I understand the concerns that you have expressed and
as you have noted, we have outlined to NR our view on the need for prior
approval - one part of which considers the matter of whether the facility needs
to be located in this position. In terms of recent works, the enforcement
officer has sought to review works to date but these do not appear to be
directly related to the commencement of the train wash building itself and
therefore fall outside the scope of our control. I recognise your concerns
however about the potential for impact upon your home.
We will await NR response to our recent exchange and I have committed to update
further once I have clarity on their proposed course of action.
Yours sincerely

Subject: train carriage wash work behind Gt Eastern St
Dear Mr Kelly,
It has been brought to my attention that pile drive work will be the true
nature of the 'foundation' work being carried out by GTR and Spencer Group in
the early morning hours of 11/12, 18/19 and 25/26 July.
In a recent GTR newsletter, the work being carried out was only to be
'foundation' work. There was no mention of piling.
I'm very concerned not only about the noise created by the piling, but also
about potential damage to the foundations of my house. (You will be aware that
the houses of Gt Eastern Street sit only on a few bricks.)
As a Gt Eastern Street resident, we have in the recent weeks constantly been
subjected to noise and dust from the carriage wash work. As I am still working
from home this has been a constant environmental nuisance and has had an effect
on my mental and physical wellbeing.
My understanding is the the CC have now deemed that the carriage wash requires
prior approval. For this I'm grateful. I would hope that the CC ensure that no
further work be carried out on the train carriage wash before prior approval.
Indeed, this industrial train carriage wash should be located somewhere else
away from a conservation area.
Best wishes,
Elizabeth Howell
Gt Eastern Street resident
