Hi Guys
This just on from the LAA

Please be aware and pass the message on to owners / airfields.

This van was spotted acting suspiciously at Longside - see below.

This morning, 04th August, at about 08:45 a pilot member of Buchan Aero Club at Longside airfield near Peterhead arrived early and saw the van in the picture below, parked outside the locked gate. He then saw two unknown men walking in front of our hangars, seemingly doing a recce, so he put on a yellow vest and went to challenge them. They claimed not to speak English and immediately went back to their van, departing to an industrial estate entrance further along the road. He followed them in his vehicle and tried once more to get information from them, but was only able to take this picture before they departed again.

If those Romanian (ref number plate) men had been acting legitimately, perhaps delivering parcels which almost certainly wouldn't have been in a foreign vehicle, they would have acted less suspiciously and might have asked for an address or for directions which they needed. But our pilot member was convinced that climbing over our locked gate and departing rapidly when challenged was disconcerting.

This information was also passed on to the local police. In light of the historical theft of many stolen Rotax 9 series engines, this might herald a resumption of similar crimes post covid, now that eastern European criminals can cross the Channel with relative ease.

I respectfully request that a warning should be put out to as many LAA members as possible.
