Just thought I would let you know about my recent experience.
Over the last few weeks I've had problems in starting from cold and after much
gnashing of teeth and head banging, narrowed it down to "something wrong with
the carb"
Found a guy over near Newmarket who services Bing carbs mainly for BMW
motorbikes, but is extremely knowledgable about the range of Bing carbs
especially the 64 which most of us use.
Took the carb over to him, and he did the following:
The carb & jets ultrasonically cleaned, vapour blasted and cleaned through. New
gaskets fitted to the float bowl & enricher circuit. New O-rings fitted to the
Idle jet, main jet holder, Idle mixture screw, enricher assembly & throttle
shaft. A new diaphragm fitted. Carb top, throttle shaft, throttle shaft bracket
& enricher screws replaced & secured with Loctite. Floats weighed, Float needle
pressure checked.
The Carb was returned looking like brand new, fitted in, adjusted the idle jet,
started first time!
Cost was £85 which if you look up the cost of a new seal and gasket set at £120
is incredible value.
