Is anyone using a "CPU accelerator" program here? If so, I'd suggest
dumping it - something like that can't and won't work. (I'm not talking
about programs that set the cache params for AMD K6 CPUs - these can
accelerate the system quite a lot if the CPU isn't recognized by the
BIOS.) I'd rather check the L2 cache mode in the BIOS setup (mainly
concerns 486 systems) - there's Write-back and write-through, and
Write-back is faster (however, only the later 486 CPUs support it). You
should also check the settings for burst mode (3-2-2-2 or 2-1-1-1
depending on the memory), interleave (turn on if available) and
shadowing (VGA and main BIOS should always be shadowed).
