Thanks Liz I look forward to the new service and might be using it.
Do you still charge social services? You can keep up with me on Twitter.

Thank you Peter for this very considered response.
Abdul, I am very pleased you are finding another way of meeting your reading
needs. Perhaps this group has ceased to be relevant for you?
Peter is quite right that Calibre's existing service is still valued by many
people and we have around 15,000 people currently actively borrowing our books,
the vast majority of whom really enjoy the service. Our postal services on USB
and CD will be continuing but we will be adding our own download service to our
service portfolio next year. CAL Download will be available (free) to Calibre
members using Smartphones or Tablets and has been specifically designed for
visually impaired people (unlike Overdrive). More details of this service will
follow in due course but it has already won an award - coverage of which is on
our website. The books available to download will be human voice and
unabridged. We know it will not suit everyone but for some it may complement
the existing services, for others it may in time prove their preferred method
of listening. We also hope it will attract a new audience to Calibre and help
our charity to meet the needs of more people.
Kind regards
Liz

Hello Abdul.
You may choose to have all the modern technology, but there will
be many people who don't. I have computers, and various other
talking book devices, but I value Calibre, and it is still my
preferred source for books. rNIB Overdrive doesn't work on my
computer, and the latest device, Bumble Bee, from British Wireless for the
Blind, which does have full access to the RNIB Talking Book Library, is only
for those who qualify by being on means-tested benefits, so I cannot get one as
they are not selling them.
I still very much prefer my books read in a human voice, not a digital voice.
By all means enjoy the facilities you have, but don't forget those who have no
computer systems at all and who value services such as Calibre.
