Currently I'm reading "A Far Country" by Nevil Shute. It's set in the early 1950s, mainly in Australia so far. People are either moving or thinking of moving between England and Australia; discussions of the shortages and generally poorer conditions of some of the people in one country as opposed to the other, etc. I don't know where the actual story is going, but with Nevil Shute you can expect a good story anyway. The book is from Calibrh but I don't remember its number. Well, earlier this week I did something I very rarely do - I sent a book back without reading much of it. It was a novel, and totally forgetable! I can't remember the title, let alone what it was about. Then I read Vein of Deceit by Susanna Gregory. It was a novel set in the 1350s, in Cambridge - a detective story. It wasn't bad, but it was overly complex, and the characters were wooden. I think it might be better in print where you can look back and see who the charters are - there were so many, all introduced at once. Now I am reading an Audible book by Jill Paton Walsh, one using Dorothy L Sayer's characters. This is much better! The characters are introduced gradually and you have time to work them out! And they are more rounded - you can believe in them.
