I have just finished reading Jessica's Girl, by Josephine Cox. It was the second book of hers which I have read. The book lasts just over sixteen hours. It begins with Jessica on her death bed, and she receives a letter from her brother, saying that he will agree to become guardian of her daughter Phoebe, but as he really doesn't want this responsibility, certain conditions must be adhered to. Following Jessica's death, Phoebe moves into her uncle Edward's house, where it is clear she is not wanted. The story covers Phoebe's relationships with family, friends and neighbours. Some parts of the story annoyed me, but it is a good book, and well worth reading.
