If you'd like to get notifications when open source software projects are released, freshmeat is a good resource. Right now there isn't an Architectural CAD category (for example, QCAD is in the section "Topic :: Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based"), but I'm sure a little lobbying could change that. -----Original Message----- From: david juarez [mailto:david@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]=20 Sent: Friday, September 19, 2003 9:34 AM To: cad-linux@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [cad-linux] Re: splittig the list hi just the same case as helena (architect-user without programming ambitions) and absolutely agree with her. probably people like us would like to be up-to-date on software releases, their characteristics and qualities, and eventually contribute as beta testers or discussing questions about usability, preferences, etc. and it would be a great idea to separate this issues from the detailed tech talk. my vote for the first option too! david > i think the first option is the best > i'm an architect and i don't know anything about programming > i just want to find a good cad program to use under linux, so i can > give up windows forever.:) > i'm using icad from cadopia, and i'd like to find a compatible cad > program so that i can use dwg files > > Helena > > > >> it's not a new subject, but most discussion about splittig the list >> has > been >> off list. >> i just got word from the staff at freelists and they do not consider >> it duplication as long as the two lists are "really discussing two >> different facets of CAD on linux". >> >> so at the risk of starting a flame war. do we keep cad-linux for user >> discussion and anouncements, splitting off the development to a new >> list(suggestions for a name)? >> >> do we create an annoucement list and keep all discussion on cad-linux? >> >> or >> >> are there other options that should be considered? >> >> >> btw, i know that most projects have their own development list, but >> more > than >> one or two new projects got started on this list. several projects >> found > new >> help and ideas from discussion from this list. i'd hate to lose that. >> >> >> i can find strong point for either of the two above options. >> feedback, comments, suggestions. >> >> >> >> -- >> Oh i've slipped the surly bonds of DOS >> and danced the skies on Linux silvered wings. >> http://pfrostie.freeservers.com/cad-tastrafy/ >> //www.freelists.org/webpage/cad-linux >>
