I ought to give this update on my status, as I've been out of touch for a while.... In early March, I had a very serious accident while attempting to take down a tree. I was struck by a falling snag, and suffered some severe injuries, that have left me a "T-5" spinal cord injury case - essentially parapelegic, with feeling, but no motor control from the chest down. At that I was lucky, if you want to call it that, as I am told that only about 10% of people with my level of injury make it TO the emergency room (Which fortunately was at a major trauma center) and only about half of those make it out of the ER... I spent several weeks in the hospital, and am now sitting in the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, where I expect to be spending the next several weeks. I am just barely starting to make a dent in my e-mail backlog while trying to keep up with incoming - While I appreciate people's good wishes, and don't want to seem rude, I would kind of prefer if the number of messages that I need to respond to was kept to a minimum, as the amount of time I have to spend online is limited.... Obviously, because of this accident, I am not doing ANY work on the library, and am not even sure I even have a copy on this laptop that was purchased in order to let me get back in touch with the cyber-world... This is actually interesting. We have open standards for 3d (step, iges, x3d), we have for 2d illustration (svg), but do we have for 2s cad? Is svg suitable for this? I ask because I see dxf as highly problematic here. It is fine if your files work with QCad, but this does not make dxf an open standard. It heavily depends on (and changes with) versions and is controlled by a company not very open to the rest of the world. So what would people propose if not svg? iges and step provide 2d, but is there software able to use this? Cheers Lars.
