Hi. I do not know if any of you experienced anything like this with any other 3D CAD programs, but... I use Realsfot's R3D, and I experience a strange behavior. R3D should use OpenGL, but here is what I see happening: First, I feel rather stupid: I discovered that I have had hardware acceleration OFF ever since I started using R3D. No wonder I could never use GL shading and I always had to resort to wireframe... I thought R3D was very slow. Anyway, I have discovered it when, today, I have bought a GeForce 4400 and while installing it I realized I had previously hardware 3D accel. turned OFF.. Anyway, after installation glxgears jumped from 20 to 580 FPS :-) (full screen, 1280*1024, 16bit) So, I instantly started up R3D in order to FINALLY see my models in glorious OpenGL rendering. Oh, bother: speed is absolutely the same as before, equivalent to when I had no hardware 3D acceleration on my machine. All the openGL stuff is there, I have MESA, (mesaglu-4.0.1-74 mesaglut-4.0.1-74 gle-3.0.6-98 gtkglarea-1.2.2-301 mesaglut-devel-4.0.1-74 NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-2960 ), the gl test suite runs fine, and I attach the output of the 'glxinfo' command to this mail should anyone want to take a look... VariCAD takes advantage of this and I have now a large improvement in speed, so the OpenGL setup is correct. I am puzzled - what am I doing wrong? Looks like R3D is not using OpenGL, but this should not be the case.
