Something along these lines that I think is very intriguing
is 'workspot'. It's basically a Redhat Linux Gnome desktop, available
via a java-plugin through any web browser. In essence, it gives
you a 'meta-computer' in that any computer with a proper web
browser can become your Linux workstation. You're given 100 megs
of space, and it's got everything that a normal Linux install
would have, so you can have your mail and stuff all in there.
It's something like 10 bucks a month.

They are limited in the software that is standard; however if
enough people started asking for it they probably would include
some kind of CAD package into their 'mix'. So then, from anywhere
in the world, you could get to your 'desktop' and files and
do work. It's a very interesting idea.

Here's the web page: http://www.workspot.com/
