It's starting to sound like the database is going to
be the most important aspect of package architecture. 
I'd really like to talk to the boys at
Microform/Sweden about Varkon's development
philosophy.  The model format is less of an issue --
simply pick something universal and open.  XML is
taking a fast lead here -- in my mind -- with
VRML[older] in second place.  I can't get that excited
about adopting/adapting .dwg because patent/IP laws
have gotten way out of hand.  No way would I risk
developing a system only to have it collapse down the
road because an Autode$k lawyer can beat up my lawyer.
 Dxf sounds like a safer bet.  

The reason I'm pushing VRML/XML is because "the kids
love it."  That is, the gamers -- a very broad talent
base -- fiddle with these all the time for their
various projects.  I'm not advocating using a game
engine as an engineering package -- necessarily.  I'm
just pointing this out because the lines have blurred
between gaming worlds and VR worlds for research and
design.
