Unfortunately I can’t run through the installation of IYP right now, as I’m
not at the machine where it would be done. I don’t remember having much trouble
with it though, I remember it eventually started talking. Do you have any other
screen readers you can try? I have no idea why your computer would be sluggish
after running that installation program, it just does a fairly simple job.

Okay, excellent. You’ll probably want to grab IYP at this point, just to
make things easier. Basically, this screen is where you can change aircraft,
weather, time and season, and so forth. You’ll notice lots of buttons
labeled “change.” The order runs something like Aircraft, location, weather,
time. You’ll be using some of these controls more than others, I tend to use
Aircraft and rather a lot.
Unfortunately there’s no tutorial I’m aware of for exactly what to do from
here. There were a few podcasts years ago but I don’t know where they are
now. But basically you want to get IYP, and once you have it you can start
flying.

Okay, I’m glad the game is running for you. There are a few things
you’ll
have to get used to to navigate. First off, you probably want to use
NVDA
object navigation to explore the opening screen. It’s easy to get stuck
in
some controls if you don’t. explore both left and right, and don’t forget
to
move “into,” and “out of,” objects.
Second, you’ll probably want to turn off the music. It’s a checkbox on
the
opening screen, you can probably find it with object nav or maybe
shift+tab.
It’s very distracting when trying to find your way around.
If you can get to the “Free flight,” section, you’re in the meat of the
sim,
and we can help you from there.
