I’d recommend MyTraffic 6, ActiveSky Next and, previously, I would've
recommended Radar Contact, but now that I’ve figured out the trick to get PF3
working without an interface for it, it is great, though mode 3 does conflict
with IYP for some reason.
I’ll explain what I do to get PF3 working so you can decide if you want to
purchase it. You can also try the demo.
Follow the manual of PF3 for specific instructions on it; this is how I get it
to work with IYP.
1. Connect PF3 to the simulator.
2. Open IYP and tell it to go to the Radar Contact 4 RC mode, Live ATC… just as
long as the MSATC window doesn’t come up, that’s what you want.
3. Once PF3 is connected to the simulator, close the Electronic Kneeboard and
go to your FSX main folder. There will be a folder called PF3 Display. In that
folder will be a file called
PF3_Freqs.dat.
I recommend saving this file as a shortcut on your desktop; you will need it
often to tell IYP to tune to radio frequencies for ATC.
4. Go through the checklists as normal. When you have to get the weather,
instead of saying Get ATIS, you can say going to <ATIS Frequency>.
5. Clearance is the same idea, except this time, you will need to press
CTRL-shft-0 to request clearance once tuned to clearance. If you have PF3 set
on mode 2, it will actually go to request Taxi automatically after this and
handle coms automatically from this point forward.
Note: Those of us who use PF3 changed our hotkey from the default to 0. I’m
certain that with the Microsoft ATC window out of the way, the default key will
probably work…
If you don’t want to do all that, Radar Contact is a better fit, however do
note that i’s landing proceedures are a bit odd. PF3 never makes me overshoot
the airport 10-15 miles and then vectors me to turn around and fly back to the
marker. RC4 did though and it’s just like… okay then, there are better ways to
get me on base than that.
PF3 does have some disadvantages though, like the fact that a good number of
voices are TTS. The downside to RC4 is that there’s only eight voices. PF3 has
119 voices, both human and TTS.

I have FSX steam installed.
I also have FSUIPC and Edit speak pack installed as well.
I have both the
Third Party Aircraft Sound Installer and the
Third Party GA sound utility programs also installed.
Now what else should I get?
I have a older RC 4 dvd, but wouldn’t remember my account info or know where
the key is at to unlock it.
The reason why I really didn’t use it all that much is because I could get it
to become BVI Pilot friendly.
I have the demo to PF 3 but haven’t yet installed it.
Now everyone is talking about the following programs.
PF3 My Traffic version 2013 and active sky 2016.
I had to reinstall IYP as well.
I attempted to grab the DF7X sound package from Skysomg Soundworks, but you
need a PayPal account.
I attempted to set up a PayPal account and it wouldn’t except my credit card
info.
So the purchase didn’t go through.
Are the three programs PF3, My Traffic ver 2013 and active sky 2016 the
programs I should be purchasing?
Could use some useful advice on this issue.
Many Thanks.
Ron who’s slowly rebuilding everything so he can go flying once again.
