Hi all,
This is the first time I encountered one of these approaches with IYP.
I loaded the ILS approach frequency--keep in mind I was coming into
Twin Falls (KTWF), and I did the approach checklist when it suggested.
When I contacted tower, ATC, instead of saying to come strait in like
most times, they instead said to come in left base approach.
I acknowledged the instruction, and I figured IYP would handle it
here... it did something different than I've scene before, where it
descended very slowly from this point on. When I did the approach
checklist, while I was doing it the glidesloap and local became alive,
so I figured I was doing it right. Then I just played the waiting
game.
I was alarmed when IYP told me I was six miles in front of the
airport--I overshot, but I figured that it'd come back or something.
Nope, it decided to land 19 miles out in a field. I got conformation
it was a field when Delta Virtual held the flight for review and asked
why I landed in a field.
Did I do something wrong? Is there something about this type of
approach in the manual? If so, I think I missed it.
Thanks.
