Jody and All,

THat folder structure is entirely correct. THere is no Dovetail games folder, 
and the Steam edition appears to be installed in steamapps\common, just as on 
my setup, which works properly.

May I ask if this is definitely an FSX Steam issue? I know that the IYP
instructions seem to presume that FSX SE is installed _alongside_ original
FSX. If it isn’t, the folder structure looks a lot more like original FSX,
and consequently folders might not be where you would expect.

installation process did not create files and folders in the correct
places.

I would highly recommend that you completely unistall and re-install the
Steam Edition using all of th default settings.

Same issue.  All folders shared.  FSUIPC 4.96.  Loaded flight plan
with Cesna Skyhawk.  Then loaded IYP.  "Your simulator is running,...
no aircraft detected."  Not sure what else to try.  I never had this
issue with my other PC.  Also, I noticed that when trying to load a
flight plan, it says no flights found.
