As it says in the flight deck doc, you have to load both a flight plan
AND a flight (.flt) file. So my suggestion is to load your flight plan,
set your aircraft and its location, etc, then hit Alt+S to press the
"Save..." button in the Free Flight window. Name your flight and press
Enter. By convention, the flight name will be in the form "<Departure
City or ICAO> to <Destination City or ICAO> <Aircraft>." Once it is
saved, hit Alt+L to open the Load Saved Flight dialog, choose the flight
you want, and hit Enter.

Not sure why this is an issue, since I see the flight plan I saved,
and found when loading, in C:\users\j-love\documents\flight Simulator
X Files\... What is causing this issue?
