If I can add my thoughts here.....I also have been guilty in relying too much
on the few members who take the lead in getting us safely to the site at the
right time and in the right place to dive. So I recognise my own need to get
more involved here.
Whilst I need a bit of time to get back into planning a dive, with a bit of
support from those more experienced folks, I am willing to give it a go. An
update re rope work including shot would also help.
Thinking about it, the reason I have left it to others is that I have never
been confident about handling a technical problem on the boat. Whilst I know
this doesn’t happen often, this is not my area of expertise. In the past it’s
been too easy to rely on Tim, Jules and Andrew to fill this gap. Now that we
are restricted to the number of divers we are allowed on any one trip. In
addition I use the Navigation system too little to be confident in its
use....and I would struggle to pinpoint the area to drop the shot......often a
source of debate on the boat I know.
Taken together, I wondered if we could use Zoom or equivalent to run small club
refresher programmes to build confidence for members like me, re planning and
executing dives specifically focussed on our rib/ Littlehampton.
Warm Regards

diving for a mere 30 years is incorrect. Its true I have not been out on the
boat much in the last 18 months but am very keen to get out when possible.
My point is, however, that when the boat does go out it tends to be a select
few who do the driving etc, which means that some of us don’t get so much
experience, particularly in the critical business of dropping the shot. I
appreciate that the boat probably does not go out often enough for everyone
to get lots of experience and your idea of going out just for boat handling
practice is excellent – count me in on that and I will help all I can. Let
us work as team to put this right rather than fling mud around.

Over thirty years of doing this and your not up to speed at organising
trips out on the boat and driving the boat. I think it’s not that you
have not had the opportunity to get the hang of it in that time you
just let the rest of us set it up.
