Hi Grace
Do you know of a team that needs a sail trimmer for the Robie Pierce?

Subject: [bubs] Sighted guide training and getting the season started!
Hi everyone! I hope you all are finally shaking off the snow and getting ready
for summer!
Some announcements about upcoming events, which include sighted guide training,
Robie Pierce practice, and putting together a blind match racing team:
1. Sighted guide training is now scheduled for Sunday, May 13, from 2-5 PM at
Community Boating. It will include a land based portion and a sailing portion.
We are looking for experienced blind sailors to help train new guides! Pauline
has volunteered, but we need a couple more. Also, another sighted guide or two
would be helpful to share experiences and split up between boats. Maybe some
folks coming off tiller club that morning could help out? Please let Grace know
if you would be interested! And, of course, send any potential guides along!
2. Robie Pierce practices are starting on Wednesdays at Community Boating on
May 2. 5:30-ish start, and there are five Wednesdays from May 2 to the Robie
Pierce Regatta. A great time to get your team together before the event and
iron out your tacks and jibes! Here are some Boston and partially Boston teams
I have heard are going:
- Duane, Maureen, and Sol
- Willi, Katherine, and Leo
- Pauline, Thax, and AB to be determined
- Matt, Nina, and an AB
- Lance from Annapolis, Jason, and Grace
- Jodi & Chris from Canada, guided by Gregor
Wow, that's six teams! Pauline, Katherine and Grace will also be doing the
women's event on Thursday May 31. So, let's get out on Wednesdays and practice!
Even if only part of your team can make it, consider coming down and we can mix
it up to get time in the boat.
3. Blind Match racing practices
By now, you have probably all seen the NOR for the Blind Match Racing Worlds in
Scotland, September 1-7. If not, I have included links at the end of this
email.
It is the humble goal of BUBS to fundraise for one team (three blind sailors
and one guide) to go to Scotland this fall. We estimate, at first wild guess,
that this will cost about $5000. However, we first need to know that we have a
team interested in going. Have you thought about it? Let us know! A great way
to either demonstrate interest or find out if this is for you is to come to
blind match racing practices at Community Boating on Thursdays at 5:30 PM,
starting May 10. We will have use of the audible buoys.
Okay, that's an email with information, go on your merry way! Feel free to ask
questions, make suggestions, and share any cool things you think BUBS should
get up to. And as always, the more boats the merrier! Come sailing!
Grace
