Dear Sailors,
On Monday evening, October 15, 2018, Boston's Community Boating, Inc.
(CBI) held its Annual Meeting of the Corporation at the CBI boathouse.
During the meeting, President of the Board of Directors, Karyn
Brudnicki, presented the Ed Long Outstanding Volunteer Award to our
friend and fellow blind sailor Jay Kronfeld for his many years of
service to CBI.
Following are the comments made by President Brudnicki to the assembled
Corporation members before she presented the award to Jay, for whom this
was a complete surprise:
"This volunteer joined the Budget and Finance Committee about 20 years
ago. He took leadership in developing an investment policy statement
and creating the Investment subcommittee which he chaired for many
years. He continues to serve on CBI's Budget and Finance Committee.
CBI's endowment funds have prospered over many years through his careful
stewardship.
"While his largest contributions have been financially, he’s also helped
develop CBI’s larger strategic vision by serving on the Board for 12
years and on the Strategic Planning Committee. He regularly promotes
CBI's programs and has helped recruit individuals to get more involved
in CBI governance over many years, recently formalizing this role as a
member of the newly constituted Recruitment Committee. This is all the
more notable given that he lives in Connecticut and has complicated
travel arrangements to participate as a volunteer at CBI. Please join
me in thanking Jay Kronfeld as our 2018 Ed Long Outstanding Volunteer
Award recipient!"
Blind sailors Duane Farrar and Dave Vieira, who were also in attendance,
joined the assembled Corporation in giving Jay a much-deserved standing
ovation.
This award, created in 2017, is given to someone who has provided
outstanding volunteer service on behalf of CBI for over 10 years. It is
named in honor of Ed Long, a longtime CBI member and volunteer of over
40 years, who passed in April 2017 after a long battle with cancer. Jay
is only the second person to receive this award.
Congratulations, Jay, and Well Done!
